Danny Hurley's Journey from Seton Hall to UConn
From Personal Struggles to Coaching Success
Danny Hurley's story is one of redemption and triumph. After struggling with personal demons in his youth, Hurley turned his life around and became a successful college basketball coach. He spent his college career as a point guard at Seton Hall, a Big East rival of UConn. He spent his final two seasons as the team's captain and led the Pirates to the NCAA Tournament in 1994.
UConn Head Coach
After graduating from Seton Hall, Hurley played professionally for a few years before beginning his coaching career. He spent time as an assistant coach at Wagner College and Rutgers University before being named the head coach at Wagner in 2010. He led the Seahawks to three Northeast Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
In 2018, Hurley was named the head coach at UConn, his alma mater's Big East rival. He has since led the Huskies to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2021. Hurley is known for his fiery personality and intense coaching style. He has quickly become a fan favorite in Storrs and has helped to restore UConn's basketball program to prominence.
