Governor Suspends State Gas Tax to Provide Relief at the Pump

Emergency Measure Signed into Law

State residents will see immediate savings

In a move to provide immediate relief to state residents struggling with soaring gas prices, Governor Jane Smith has suspended the state gas tax for the next 90 days. The emergency measure, signed into law today, will save drivers an estimated 30 cents per gallon.

"Our residents are feeling the pinch at the pump right now," Governor Smith said in a statement. "This suspension will provide them with some much-needed relief and help offset the rising cost of living."

The gas tax suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place until July 15th. State officials estimate that the measure will cost the state approximately $50 million in lost revenue. However, Governor Smith believes the investment is worth it to help ease the financial burden on residents.

"We know that this is only a temporary solution," Governor Smith added. "But it's a step in the right direction to help our residents during this challenging time."
